A new setting in Book of Glads Volume 2 is the Eastern State Penitentiary on Fairmount Ave. It’s the official Mega-City Philadelphia prison. Since an appreciation of ‘Historical Significance’ is a bedrock value for the Mega-City System, it made sense. This prison has history and significance. Before it closed in 1970, it housed infamous inmates like Al Capone. But what’s most significant about the prison is that it is considered the first ‘penitentiary’ in the U.S. I visited it once a couple of years ago, sine it’s a museum now. Spoiler: One of the main characters ends up an inmate here.
